After having a great campfire while camping in North Idaho, we hope you will take the time to properly extinguish the fire. We hope you enjoy camping in Sandpoint on your next vacation.

The allure of a crackling campfire and the opportunity to get away from the everyday hustle and bustle is one we all can relate to. There are many options to choose from when it comes to camping in the Sandpoint area. One can find fully developed campgrounds with showers, fire pits and evening nature presentations by campground staffers. Boat ramps, docks and trails are found at many of the area campgrounds.

For those seeking a more "primitive" camping experience there are certainly many choices from which to choose. There are numerous high alpine lakes which provide almost guaranteed seclusion and low impact camping. One can often just find a good place next to a stream or lake and pitch the tent or sleep under the stars. Often in the summer months the northern sky offers up one of natures most spectacular light shows......Aurora Borealis or the Northern Lights. The Northern Lights are truly one of the most spectacular shows nature will provide campers in the region.

For those with campers or RV's there are some fine RV parks with full hook-ups including water and power. Many of these are located on Lake Pend Oreille, as well as adjacent to the lake. Pump stations are at many of the parks as well. Most of the RV park hosts can offer visitors many options to make the stay enjoyable.

Huckleberry Tent and Breakfast

U.S. Forest Service Fire Lookout and Cabin Rentals
Cabin and lookout rentals offer a unique way of enjoying the beautiful surroundings of the Idaho Panhandle National Forests. Perched high on a mountain peak with unlimited vistas or nestled beside a stream, these facilities allow you to experience rustic Forest Service living at its best.

Riley Creek Campground
Features 68 spaces on the Pend Oreille River. Offers toilets, water and showers. Allows up to a 25' trailer. Dump station, dumpsters and boat ramp. Located 15 miles West of Sandpoint via Highway 2.

Springy Point Campground
This is a nice campground with 40 units, water, toilets, 24' trailer spaces, boat ramp, docks and lots of fun. Just 5 miles from Sandpoint on Lakeshore Drive.

Farragut State Park
Located on Lake Pend Oreille. This park offers 145 spaces, toilets, showers and water. Can take up to a 32' trailer. Has a dump station, hook-ups, boat launch and docks. This is a great spot for swimming and kayaking. Located just 25 miles South of Sandpoint, Idaho, via Highway 95.

Garfield Bay Resort
Features 23 R.V. spaces. Three rustic cabins are also available. Water, sewer and electric hookups available. Dump station, toilets, showers and camping. We have a boat launch, laundry, beach and picnic area. Just 14 miles from Sandpoint at Garfield Bay Road.

Round Lake State Park
Offers 52 camp sites, toilets, showers, 24' trailer spaces, dump station and boat launch (electric motors only). Located just 10 miles South of Sandpoint on Dufort Road.

Green Bay Campground
This tent only campground is about 15 miles south of Sandpoint on Garfield Bay Rd. There are three spaces, with swimming, hiking, toilets and no fee.

Whiskey Rock
Located on the east shore of Lake Pend Oreille about 30 miles SW of Clark Fork. There are three units with three sites each. Picnic units, fire rings, beach/swimming, fishing, boat dock, pit toilets. No fee at this Forest Service facility. Tent camping only.

Island View Trailer Resort
The resort has a space waiting for your RV or Camper. Located just two miles East of Hope, turn right on Samowen Road. RV sites, boat harbor, boat rentals and general store. Use our docks or hook-up to one of our trailer spaces. Be sure to bring apples so the deer can eat out of your hand.

Sam Owen Campground
David Thompson Game Refuge on Lake Pend Oreille. Offers 82 units, 22' trailer spaces, dump station, a great covered picnic area, boat ramp and dock. Keep an eye out for deer, wild turkey and campers having fun. Located 17 miles East of Sandpoint on Highway 200.

There are five spaces in this tent only campground located about 15 miles north of Clark Fork. Picnic tables, fishing and toilets. This is a no fee facility.

Priest River Recreation Area
This has 20 spaces available. On the water with a swimming beach, boat ramp, showers, toilets and a dump station. No limit on trailer size. Open 5/8 until 9/25 No hook-ups available. One mile east of Priest River on Hwy 2.
