Pend Oreille River, Sandpoint Idaho The Pend Oreille River was for many years a major transportation corridor. The communities of Dover, Laclede, and Priest River relied on the river for food, transportation and commerce. Large lumber mills lined the shore and log drives on the river supplied the mills with materials. Native Americans had a community on the north shore called Seneacquteen where trading flourished between Native Americans and local settlers.
